Alicante Airport to Altea: Private Transfer Guide

How to get from Alicante Airport to Altea and Calpe: driving time, the best road, old-town drop-offs and why a fixed-price private transfer beats the bus.

Alicante Airport to Altea: Private Transfer Guide

How far is Altea from Alicante Airport?

Altea lies about 70 km north of Alicante–Elche Airport. In normal traffic the drive takes 55 to 65 minutes, almost all of it on the AP-7 motorway, which we use by default because it bypasses the busy Benidorm stretch of the N-332. Tolls are included in our price, so you never pay anything extra on the day. Calpe is another ten minutes further along the coast, which is why many guests combine the two towns in one booking when friends are staying in different places.

Public transport options and their limits

There is no direct train from the airport to Altea. The usual public route is a bus to Alicante or Benidorm followed by the TRAM line 9 or a local bus, which easily turns into a two-hour journey with suitcases and changes. Late arrivals are the hardest case: the last useful connections leave well before midnight, while many summer charter flights land after 23:00. A private transfer removes the changes completely — you walk out of arrivals and the next stop is your hotel or villa.

Drop-offs in the old town and the hills

Altea's whitewashed old town around the blue-domed church is pedestrian in places and the lanes are steep. Our driver takes you to the closest legal point, usually Plaça de l'Aigua or the car park below the church, and helps with luggage. Villas in Altea Hills, Sierra de Altea and Mascarat are often behind security gates, so send the full address and gate details on WhatsApp before you fly.

Choosing the right vehicle

An Economy Sedan suits up to three passengers with three suitcases, a Comfort SUV four with four, and a Premium Minivan up to seven with seven pieces of luggage — the usual choice for families or golfers heading to Don Cayo or Las Rejas.

What to do in Altea once you arrive

Walk up to the church square at sunset, eat rice dishes on the seafront at the Paseo del Mediterráneo, and spend a morning at the Guadalest valley or the Algar waterfalls, both less than 30 minutes inland. If you are staying a week, a day trip back to Alicante's Santa Bárbara castle or along the coast to Jávea is easy to arrange with a driver.
