Benidorm, Calpe or Jávea: Which Costa Blanca Base Suits You
An honest comparison of three very different Costa Blanca bases — nightlife, family beaches and quiet coves — with transfer times from Alicante Airport.
Benidorm: everything within walking distance
Benidorm packs two enormous blue-flag beaches, a promenade, a theme park and the densest concentration of hotels in Spain into a compact grid. If you want restaurants and shows on your doorstep, and you do not intend to hire a car, this is the easiest base on the coast. Transfer time from Alicante Airport is around 50 minutes.
Calpe: the rock, the salt flats and the old town
Calpe is a middle ground: two long sandy beaches, a working fishing port, flamingos on the salt lake and the Peñón de Ifach rising behind the town. It has a proper Spanish centre and is quieter in the evenings than Benidorm without being sleepy. Around an hour from the airport.
Jávea: coves, pine and low-rise
Jávea, or Xàbia, has strict building height limits, so the coastline is pine and villas rather than towers. It splits into the old town, the port and the Arenal beach, several kilometres apart, so a car or pre-arranged transfers matter more here. About 1 h 15 from Alicante Airport, and closer to Valencia Airport than many visitors realise.

Benidorm for teenagers and rainy-day options, Calpe for younger children who want sand and a short walk to dinner, Jávea for families with a car who prefer swimming off rocks and coves.
