About Calpe

Calpe is defined by the Peñón de Ifach, a 332-metre limestone monolith that splits the town into Arenal-Bol beach on one side and Cantal Roig and the port on the other. Behind the seafront apartments there is a genuine old town with Moorish walls, and the fish auction at the harbour still sells the day's catch each afternoon. A Calpe airport transfer from Alicante takes around 55 minutes on the AP-7.

• Book the Peñón climbing permit online days in advance; entry is capped and often full in August.
• The town spreads over 3 km — Arenal, port and old town are separate areas with separate parking.
• Flamingos on the salt lagoon are easiest to see early morning from the north path.
