Barcelona Airport to PortAventura: Family Transfer Guide

Where PortAventura actually is

PortAventura World sits between Salou and Vila-seca on the Costa Dorada, roughly 100 km south of Barcelona Airport. The drive on the AP-7 and AP-2 takes about 1 hour 15 minutes in normal traffic. The resort includes the main theme park, Ferrari Land, the Caribe Aquatic Park and several on-site hotels, and the entrances are spread over a large site, so knowing which hotel or gate you need saves a lot of walking with tired children.

Train, coach or private transfer

There is a station, PortAventura, on the regional line, but reaching it from the airport means travelling into Barcelona first and changing, usually two and a half to three hours in total with luggage. Package coaches serve the resort seasonally on fixed schedules. A private airport transfer is the direct option: one vehicle, one fixed price, straight from arrivals to your hotel door, with the driver tracking your flight in case it lands late.

Travelling with young children

Spanish law requires appropriate restraints for children, and we can supply infant seats and booster seats when you request them at booking. Pushchairs travel in the boot; tell us if you are bringing a double buggy so we allocate the minivan.

Planning the park days

Opening dates and hours vary through the year and some areas close in low season, so check portaventuraworld.com before fixing your travel days. Families staying in Salou or Cambrils rather than on-site can reach the gates in ten to fifteen minutes, and our Costa Dorada guide covers the resort towns in more detail. Arriving the evening before a park day is far less stressful than trying to fly in and queue on the same morning.

Return journeys and flight timing

For a departure from Barcelona Airport we normally suggest leaving PortAventura three hours before a short-haul flight and three and a half for long-haul, allowing for the drive and check-in with a family's worth of luggage. If you are flying home from Reus instead, the airport is only twenty minutes away. Book your PortAventura transfer on WhatsApp with your flight number, hotel and the ages of any children so we bring the right seats.
