Barcelona Airport to Salou, Tarragona and Cambrils

The Costa Dorada starts an hour south of the airport

The Costa Dorada — literally the golden coast — runs from the Garraf down past Tarragona towards the Ebro delta, and its resort heart is the triangle of Salou, Cambrils and La Pineda, with PortAventura World in the middle and Roman Tarragona just up the road. From El Prat it is between 85 and 110 km by the AP-7 and A-7, which means roughly an hour to an hour and twenty minutes door to door. It is a straightforward drive, and precisely because it is long enough to be expensive on a meter, it is the stretch of coast where fixed prices matter most.

Fixed prices from Barcelona Airport

Our published rates are €160 to Salou, €150 to Tarragona, €170 to Cambrils and €165 to PortAventura, each per vehicle rather than per person and each including AP-7 tolls, VAT, luggage, child seats, flight monitoring and 60 minutes of free airport waiting. A family of four travelling to Salou therefore pays €160 in total, door to door, with the price known before departure. Reus Airport is also on this coast and sits €155 from Barcelona Airport, or €45 for the short Reus Airport to Salou hop if your inbound flight lands there instead.

Salou: PortAventura, Llevant beach and the resort strip

Salou is the largest resort on the coast, built around the wide Platja de Llevant and the palm-lined Passeig Jaume I, with a hotel strip that stretches inland towards the PortAventura access roads. It is 100 km and about 70 minutes from El Prat. Arriving families almost always have more luggage than they expect — buggies, beach gear, a case per child — which is why we ask for the real count and send a Comfort SUV or a Premium Minivan rather than squeezing everyone into a saloon. Hotels in Cap Salou and the far end of the Llevant strip are a fifteen-minute walk from the centre, so being driven to the door is not a luxury.

PortAventura World and Ferrari Land

PortAventura is Spain's biggest theme park resort and has its own on-site hotels — Hotel PortAventura, Caribe, El Paso, Gold River, Colorado Creek and Mansión de Lucy — each with a separate entrance and a separate drop-off. Our €165 fixed price takes you to the door of the specific hotel rather than the park gate, which saves a long walk with tired children. If you are staying in Salou and visiting the park for the day, we also run local journeys, and we can time the return for after the evening show rather than making you leave early for a bus.

Tarragona: Roman ruins and a working city

Tarragona is different in character from the resorts: a real Catalan city with a UNESCO-listed Roman amphitheatre overlooking the sea, a medieval cathedral, the Rambla Nova and a serious food scene. At 90 km it is 65 minutes from the airport and €150 fixed. The old town streets are steep and narrow, and much of the area around the cathedral is restricted to residents, so we agree a drop-off point close to your accommodation in advance. Cruise ships also call at Tarragona port, and we handle those transfers on the same basis as Barcelona's.

Cambrils: the quieter, gastronomic choice

Cambrils sits just beyond Salou and trades nightlife for a working fishing port, a long promenade and a reputation for some of the best seafood restaurants in Catalonia. It is 110 km and around 75 minutes from El Prat at €170 fixed. Families who found Salou too busy on a previous trip usually end up here, and the apartment blocks along the Passeig Miramar are well suited to a car that brings you to the entrance rather than a coach stop several streets away.

La Pineda, Miami Platja, Mont-roig and the smaller resorts

Not everything on this coast has a published rate. La Pineda, Vila-seca, Miami Platja, Mont-roig del Camp, Hospitalet de l'Infant, Altafulla, Torredembarra and Calafell are all regular destinations, and we quote them individually on WhatsApp using the same all-inclusive logic. If your accommodation is a rented villa or a campsite rather than a hotel, send the exact coordinates or a map pin — rural addresses on this coast are often better identified by a pin than by a street name.

Timing your journey and the return to the airport

The AP-7 is generally fast, but it congests at the Martorell junction on Friday evenings and around Tarragona at the start of the August holidays. For the return we recommend leaving Salou or Cambrils three hours before a short-haul departure and three and a half before long-haul, which usually means an early start. Our drivers begin from the coast rather than from Barcelona, so a 04:30 pick-up is a normal booking rather than an exception, and there is no night surcharge.
