Sitges is closer than most visitors expect

Sitges lies 25 km down the coast from El Prat, which makes it one of the few genuinely beachfront towns in Europe that is closer to its international airport than the city centre is. By the C-32 coastal motorway and the Garraf tunnels the drive takes about 25 minutes outside rush hour, sometimes 35 on a July Saturday. That proximity is why so many travellers skip Barcelona entirely on arrival day, drop their bags at a hotel on Passeig de la Ribera and are swimming before dinner. Train, bus or taxi: the honest comparison

There is no direct train from the airport to Sitges. The rail route means taking the R2 Nord from Terminal 2 or the Aerobús into the city, changing at Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gràcia onto an R2 Sud service, then walking from Sitges station to your hotel — realistically 75 to 100 minutes with luggage and two changes. The Mon-Bus coach runs from both terminals but on a limited timetable that thins out in the evening and takes around 45 minutes plus the walk. Why the door-to-door difference matters in Sitges

Sitges old town is a grid of narrow, partly pedestrianised streets around the Sant Bartomeu church, and many of the best small hotels and apartments sit inside it. Rolling two suitcases from the station over cobbles in August heat is the part of the journey nobody plans for. Sitges is a wedding town and a golf town. In the other direction, a 07:00 departure means leaving Sitges around 04:45, which no scheduled service covers.
