About Valencia
Valencia is Spain's third city and possibly its most liveable: a medieval centre of silk-trade halls and horchata bars, a nine-kilometre garden laid out in the old riverbed, and Calatrava's white City of Arts and Sciences at the end of it. Paella was invented in the rice fields of the Albufera just south of town, and the beaches at Malvarrosa are a tram ride from the centre. Valencia airport lies 10 km west, so a Valencia airport transfer reaches the centre in about 20 minutes.

Travel tips
- Fallas (15-19 March) closes much of the centre and fills every hotel — book transfers weeks ahead.
- Real paella valenciana is a lunch dish; places serving it at night are aimed at visitors.
- The beach and the old town are 4 km apart, so pick your neighbourhood before booking accommodation.
