Barcelona Airport to Tarragona: Roman City Transfer Guide

A Roman capital an hour from the airport

Tarragona — Roman Tarraco — is 90 km south of Barcelona Airport, about one hour on the AP-7 and AP-2. The amphitheatre above the sea, the circus vaults, the Roman walls and the nearby Ferreres aqueduct form a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble you can walk between in a morning, with the Part Alta's restaurants a few streets away.

Train or private transfer

High-speed trains serve Camp de Tarragona station, but that station is 10 km outside the city at Perafort and needs a bus or taxi at the end. Regional trains reach the central station more slowly. From the airport either option starts with a trip into Barcelona Sants. A direct private transfer removes those two changes and puts you at your hotel or at the amphitheatre gate.

Combining Tarragona with the Costa Dorada

Salou is fifteen minutes away, Cambrils twenty, and PortAventura sits between them, so families often base themselves on the coast and visit the Roman city for a day. A private car with waiting time lets you see the amphitheatre, eat in the old town and be back at the beach by mid-afternoon without checking a timetable.
