Three wine regions within reach
The Penedès begins 45 minutes from Barcelona around Vilafranca and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, home of cava. Priorat and Montsant lie further south-west, roughly two hours away past Falset, with terraced llicorella slopes and small production cellars. Alella, barely 30 minutes north, is the easiest half-day option of all.
Why you should not drive yourself
Spain's drink-drive limit is 0.5 g/l, and 0.3 for newer licence holders. A serious tasting at two or three cellars puts any driver over it. Priorat's mountain roads are also narrow and slow, with long stretches of hairpins between villages such as Gratallops, Porrera and Torroja. A private driver turns the day into part of the experience instead of a calculation.
Booking the cellars themselves
Most estates require a booked tasting slot, and small Priorat producers may open only on certain mornings. Reserve directly with the winery, then send us the confirmed times and we build the driving plan around them.
A realistic day plan
For the Penedès, a 09:30 pick-up from your hotel, a cava cellar at 11:00, lunch in Vilafranca and a second estate at 16:00 gets you back by early evening. For Priorat, leave by 08:30, plan two cellars with a long lunch in Falset, and expect to return around 19:00. Cases of wine travel safely in the boot — tell us how many so we send the right vehicle.
Prices and combinations
Wine days are quoted as hourly hire with the driver at your disposal, not per kilometre, so a slow lunch costs nothing extra beyond the agreed hours.
